The Pro Bono Group offers students the opportunity to apply their legal knowledge in a rewarding and charitable environment. Pro Bono work is highly regarded by a variety of firms and organisations who seek graduate employees. We work with a number of local firms and professionals in the community in order to support the students and staff at the University as well as the wider community.
As a member of Pro Bono, you will have the opportunity to attend a number of educational and enriching events over the course of the year. Last year these events included a Legal Writing Workshop, a Miscarriages of Justice Movie Night and a networking evening in the Harry Peach Library. We will also be offering two educational field trips this year, one of which will be a 3-day excursion to Amsterdam visiting The Hague.
This year students will have the largest number of teams to apply to than we have ever had before. The teams that you are able to apply for include: The Legal Advice Clinic, The Miscarriages of Justice Team, The Street Law Team, The Lawyers Without Borders Student Division, Project LIGHT, Crime Club, Amicus Charity, the Litigants in Person Project and the Immigration & Asylum Group. This means we are able to provide free legal services covering a large range of legal sectors.
The Legal Advice Clinic is a student run service providing free legal advice during University term time. All appointments last 40 minutes and are overseen by a qualified solicitor or academic. If we can’t advise on a legal issue, the clinic will direct you to relevant information and/or refer you to other alternative organisations or local legal firms.
