Love to volunteer? Struggling to find a project that really speaks to you? Want to find out what you can get involved in during your time at University of Leicester?

We've got a number of answers, come along to our Volunteering Week held between 4th March and 10th March in and around the Students Union and find them. 


We've got everything from talks about the HEAR to hands on workshops and stalls!

Donations to Leicester's people in need, donation point is in the SU Square and Reception

That old jumper, unused bottle of body lotion and pan that sits unused at home could find itself a new owner with out donation banks. We are collecting anything we can to donate to Leicester's people in need including clothes, books, kitchen and homeware items, toys, stationery, toiletries, cleaning products and anything else we can give to a home that needs it. Find our banks in the SU Square and Reception. For large amounts of donations - please speak to our Reception team.

Volunteer stall and Peer Mentor sign ups in the SU Square 11:30-15:00

Skill swap sign ups

Pay our 'Skill Swap' board in the SU Square a visit and tell us what skills you'd like to share and what skills you'd like to learn. The aim is you find someone in our community you can link up with to either teach, learn from or both! Any skill big or small is welcomed and you can come to the 'Swkill Swap Cafe' on Friday 10th too to find people you can link up with. Friday 3th March

Great British Spring Clean with Environmental Action Society 13:00 - 15:30 . Meet ouside Charles Wilson at 1 pm.

Cleaning up Vicky Park, litter-picking, maintaining wildlife areas and protecting the animal species

Saturday 4th March 

Marie Curie Great Daffodil Appeal – Megaraid. Meet at Leicester Visitors Centre 51 Gallowtree Gate, Leicester LE1 5AD. Book for the event here, and you can find out more about the cause here.

Take part in one of the Leicester City collections and raise vital funds for Marie Curie. You will be making a huge difference to people living with a terminal illness and their families.

Sunday 5th March

Town & Gown 10km in Victoria Park 08:15 – 12:00 . Find out more here

A chip-timed 10k run in Victoria Park! All money raised will go towards Muscular Dystrophy UK to fight muscle-wasting conditions.

Monday 6th March

Get Creative & make signs and cards for The Real Junk Food Project​ at the Attenborough Arts Centre 13:30- 16:30 (Pre-booking required, click here). Find out more here.

The Art Society & Attenborough Art Centre have joined forces to paint signs, flower pots and create cards for The Real Junk Food Project. No experience needed, come along and get creative.

If you are a committee member and you've been working hard all year to make sure that your society does the best it possibly can but you've been struggling to get your hours onto the system - we are here to help you solve all those issues. We will take you through a quick tutorial on how to register yourself and how to get your hours onto the system!

This is step 1 in the training to becoming a mentor. Find out what's involved, the support you'll receive and the benefits of the scheme!

ULWFC's and ULFC 

The teams will be running a stall in the gym with a charity cycle and leaflets about heart disease aiming to raise money for the British Heart Foundation. Look out for collection buckets on campus !

The Red Cross have a huge variety of volunteering opportunities from emergency response teams, first aid volunteering to fundraising and internships. Find out more about Red Cross here.

Leicester Wheels for All are an all-inclusive cycling group who work with disabled, vulnerable and excluded people. Come and find out more about volunteering with them! You can also check out their facebook page.

This talk is for you if you are on a committee and are looking at ways in which you can earn your society some extra cash over summer. This info talk will be your chance to sign up to Open Day demonstrations and find out more about the opportunity.

All Stars Cricket is a nationwide programme that is designed to inspire 5-8 year olds into taking up cricket. There are a number of different volunteer opportunities available through this programme to helping students who are on the scheme.  If you like a bit of cricket and would rather be involved in some sports related volunteering - signing up to this is a must!

C-Card is a free condom scheme to all students aged 18-24. It takes 5 minutes to register for 10 free packs of condoms and you can register as many times as you like!

Hungry for Change plot session & Cancer Research Event 12:00 - 16:00 at the Brookfield plot

Join Hungry for Change and the Cancer Research society for our memorial flower planting event. Choose from a variety of flowers, which you can plant in in our Brookfield garden as a lasting and living memorial for loved ones who are fighting cancer or to remember those we have lost. Homemade cakes and soup will be provided too!

Fruit Tree Orchard planting with Environmental Action Society 13:00 - 17:00 at Stoughton Road Playing Fields, LE2 4FS

Come along to plant a variety of fruit tree species in an area near the Oadby Student Village. Meet us at 12pm on campus, outside Charles Wilson or 1pm at Stoughton Pitches, Stoughton Road, Oadby, LE2, 4FS.

Brisk Walk in Victoria Park and Welford Cemetery: arrive at 12.50

Come and get active, 45 min walk starting at 1pm from Victoria Park gates on London Road. Get a flavour of the walks to consider becoming a walks volunteer. Please arrive 10 minutes early to register.

Volunteering and Employment workshop with the Career Development Service in the Alumni Room 14:00-14:30

University Library - Jane Goldsmith and women of mathematics 12:00 - 16:00

In 1975 Jane Goldsmith was elected as the first black female President of the Student's Union. Volunteers have been digging into the Union's past to uncover Jane's story. Come to find out more about Jane and how you can be involved in creating our history.

Change it or explain it 12:00 - 14:00

The Students' Union is here to represent the student voice - students are the most powerful voices on campus!  Any student can ask us why we do something or request that something is changed.  Come and talk about changes you'd like to see happen and find out more about volunteering as a Union Council Representative.

There's a huge range of volunteering opportunities in community libraries. From supporting the community by taking books to people in their homes, reading to children in schools, working with toddlers to helping to improve people's English or digital skills.

A vintage clothing sales event for Restless Development which send UK young adults overseas to help in the developing communities.

Thursday 9th March

Indian Summer talk in the Pink Room 12:00 - 13:00 (Pre-booking required)

If you enjoy taking part in cultural volunteering we have an opportunity for you. An Indian summer is running a project funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund and is exploring India’s independence. All Volunteers who want to take part should have an interest in learning new skills in relation to a heritage project, and they can sign up for future opportunities. If you're part of a committee that is attempting to get themselves out into schools this talk will show you the options available to you. Whether you are looking for tips on how to construct activities to just getting a feel for what you can get involved in - this talk is recommended.

The Real Junk Food Project at West End Neighbourhood Centre 18:30 - 21:00 (Pre-booking required, click here). Taxis provided - Meet at 18:10 outside Entrance 1 barriers (by the Danielle Brown Sports Centre side of Campus). 

This fantastic project intercepts food waste and cooks it up to provide back to people who need it at their weekly cafes. Come along and help waiter, cook and much more.
