I was the first person in my family to attend University, and all I ever really wanted was to get a degree, have fun, and make friends along the way. The Students' Union were there to support me when this didn’t go to plan, and this motivated me to get involved in SU life by running to be the SU’s part-time Women’s Officer - as well as working at our branch of Starbucks!
This year, I’ll work on giving you more flexibility in your studying, like lobbying for more bookable study space outside the library. I want to train student staff on issues like harassment and accessibility, open a student-run sexual health clinic (with training in LGBT* health!) on campus, and developing a rent guarantor scheme for students from low-income families, to make difficult financial times a bit easier.
Most importantly though, I want to spend the year speaking to as many of you as possible, finding out your views, and making sure that you know what we're doing and we know what you want. I think that every student deserves to finish University with not just a great degree, but with the knowledge that you've made the most of your time in Leicester.
