Role and responsibilities

There are a number of responsibilities that you will have as a course rep.

  • Attend SU training and other events- take advantage of any training opportunities
  • Attend Student–Staff Committee (SSC) Meetings (minimum of once a term)
  • Start your record of what you do as a course rep for the Students’ Union Acreditation
  • Attend a lunch with the Vice-Chancellor and Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Students)
  • Take part in Education Campaigns and in communicating information from the Students’ Union to the students you represent.
  • Communicate – not only with students from your department, but with other Course Reps too. Be pro-active in relaying information from meetings and events to your students, using social media, email, lecture shout-outs and events
  • Keep up to date with the latest goings on in the department
  • Make yourself known to your peers
  • Give your feedback to the Student Voice Team

Bring ideas and improvements to the department, including:

  • Assessment and Feedback eg. how quickly your Department returns marked work
  • Learning and Teaching  eg. how effective tutorials are
  • National Student Survey eg. discussing the information
  • Learning Resources eg. quality of lecture handouts
  • Curriculum eg. change of module options
  • Delivery of teaching eg. effectiveness of Powerpoint in lectures
  • Remember to provide evidence
